Infant Toddler, Water Exploration
This class is designed for children between the ages of six months to 3 years. The primary emphasis is providing a positive introduction to a water environment. A parent or caretaker must accompany the child in the water. The instructor works with the parents to introduce the child to blowing, face in the water, supported floating on stomach/back and kicking.
Level 1, Water Exploration
This class is designed for beginner children with little or no swimming experience, recommended ages 3 and up. A child is ready to take this class when he or she can follow directions from an instructor. A child MUST work independently of parent. The class provides an introduction to a water environment, while developing the skills needed to build strokes later. Includes instruction on these skills from American Red Cross: bubble blowing, face in water, submerge body (on wall or supported), supported floating on stomach/back and kicking.
Level 2, Primary Skills
This class is designed for children who are more comfortable in the water, but need instruction on developing the basic strokes, recommended ages 5 and up. Skills include: Floating unsupported, kicking, bobbling and doggy paddle.
Level 3, Stroke Readiness
This class is designed for children who are comfortable in the water, can do the basics and are ready to begin work on the four swimming strokes, recommended ages 6 and up. Skills include: retrieving an underwater object, jumping into the pool, back glide, front glide, front crawl and elementary backstroke.
Level 4, Stroke Development
This class is designed for children who are beginning to master front crawl and backstroke, recommended ages 6 and up. Skills include: diving, front crawl 25 yards, backstroke 25 yards, sculling and breaststroke kick.
Level 5, Stroke Refinement
This class is designed for children who have developed good front crawl and backstroke, are comfortable diving in deep water and can swim with good technique across the pool, recommended ages 8 and up. Skills include: diving from board, breaststroke, sidestroke, backstroke, front crawl, butterfly and open turns.
