The 2006-07 season marked the beginning of a new era in Appalachian State recreational swimming as the Mountaineers moved into a brand new, state-of-the-art recreational facility that includes a new aquatic center. The aquatic facility is located inside the Student Recreation Center (SRC). Students, faculty, and staff (UREC users) MUST have a current AppCard to be admitted to the Center.

The natatorium features a 50 meter by 25 yard pool that is kept between 81-83 degrees Fahrenheit at all times. The pool holds over 640,000 gallons of water and ranges from 4 1/2 feet to 10 feet with a moveable bulkhead. The shallow end of the pool features a permanent bench that extends the width of the pool with hydro-fitted jets. The pool is equipped with three Colorado pace clocks, Spectrum starting blocks, Gallatin chair access and Competitor black and gold racing lane lines.

The pool is open daily with lanes for lap and free swim. The aquatics program offers swimming lessons to Appalachian students and staff, and their immediate families, as well as the general public. Outdoor Programs offers weekly kayak polo and roll clinics. The American Red Cross Safety programs include: lifeguarding, WSI, plus more are offered each semester. Competitive swimmers may elect to join the Swim Club that practices daily during the week and competes against other universities. Faculty and staff may register for water fitness classes offered through Health Promotions, and students have the option to take various aquatic academic courses through the Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science Department.
