The aquatics department offers a number of courses to Appalachian State University students, faculty, and staff. Courses are taught by certified instructors and include the following:
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Course: This course instructs participants on how to teach water skills to others. At the completion of the course, participants will be certified to teach Preschool Aquatics, Learn to Swim Courses (levels 1-6), Adult Swim Lessons and Water Safety Courses.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Course: This two-day course offers the knowledge and skills necessary to become a NSPF Certified Pool and Spa Operator. This certification is good for five years and is widely accepted across the United States.
Lifeguarding Course: The American Red Cross lifeguarding certification courses teach participants the skills necessary to be a lifeguard.
Lifeguarding Re-Certification: This course is open to those who have a current lifeguarding certification that needs to be renewed.
Lifeguarding Instructor Course: This course is offered to those 17-years-old or older, who have a current lifeguarding certificate and would like to train others to be lifeguards.
